  23. Inc. announced today the release of Realms of Arkania - Star
  24. Trail.   Star Trail,  the second  title  in  the  Realms  of
  25. Arkania fantasy  role-playing  trilogy  and  sequel  to  the
  26. award-winning Blade  of Destiny,  is available  to consumers
  27. for IBM platforms.

  29. Realms of  Arkania -  Star  Trail  was  developed  by  Attic
  30. Entertainment Software for the computer in close cooperation
  31. with the  original authors,  Fantasy Productions in Germany.
  32. The  combined   talents  of   Attic  Entertainment,  Fantasy
  33. Productions and  Sir-tech have  produced a  fully translated
  34. version of Star Trail for the English market.

  36. Since its  introduction in  Germany in  the first-quarter of
  37. 1994, Realms  of Arkania  -  Star  Trail  has  garnered  top
  38. reviews and  kudos from  the German media including PlayTime
  39. Magazine's  PlayTime   Star,  PC   Games  Award,   TV  Movie
  40. Magazine's Movie  Star, ASM's August 1994 Game of the Month,
  41. Power Play  Magazine's Power  Play Award  and PC Joker's Hit
  42. Award.   Star Trail  received additional  awards  from  Chip
  43. Magazine and PC Professional Magazine.

  45.                          Storyline

  47. A band  of foolhardy adventurers have emerged into a land of
  48. unrest.   A land  shrouded with hatred.  Feuding between the
  49. elves and  dwarves and  the disappearance  of the Salamander
  50. Stone have  fueled the Orc's thirst for war.  The Salamander
  51. Stone, a  gem of mysterious powers, must be found to restore
  52. harmony between  the elves  and dwarves.  For these enemies,
  53. banding  together   may  be  their  only  hope  against  the
  54. bloodthirsty Orcs.

  58. After the  release of  Realms of Arkania - Blade of Destiny,
  59. Sir-tech gathered  players' compliments  and criticisms from
  60. correspondence and  telephone  calls.    In  Germany,  Attic
  61. Entertainment incorporated  new  feature  upon  new  feature
  62. until, one  and one-half  years later,  they had  created  a
  63. product the gaming public had asked for and a design that no
  64. one in the industry could match.

  67. including  an   advanced  character   creation  routine,  an
  68. absorbing storyline  with plenty  of twists  and turns,  and

  72.                            Engine

  74. Star Trail  has the most advanced smooth-scrolling engine on
  75. the market.   Star  Trail allows the gamer to look up, down,
  76. forward, backward,  right and  left and his or her pitch and
  77. bank changes  as they turn corners.  Additionally, depending
  78. on  the  character  leading  a  gamer's  party,  perspective
  79. changes.   A tall Thorwalian tends to see things differently
  80. than a runty dwarf.

  82.                        Diary Feature

  84. As each day passes, Star Trail's diary automatically records
  85. any important  events.  Gamers can make their own entries or
  86. use the  diary as  an unusual  day planner.  Incorporated in
  87. Star Trail's  diary design  is a powerful search feature and
  88. print option.

  90.                         Automapping
  91.  
  92. The picture  players see using Star Trail''s automap feature
  93. is literally  an overhead  view of  the town.   Star Trail's
  94. automap allows  the player  to move  his  or  her  party  to
  95. another location  and to  zoom in  or out for a better look.
  96. Additionally, players  can  enter  up  to  100  memos  about
  97. locations on the map.

  99.                            Combat

  101. Realms of  Arkania  is  known  for  its  phased,  isometric,
  102. turned-based combat  system.   Star Trail offers gamers four
  103. different combat  options: a  total computer  fight  showing
  104. only the outcome, a total computer fight that allows players
  105. to watch  the action unfold, a character computer fight that
  106. puts the  computer in control of one or more characters, and
  107. a manual  combat that  lets the  player control  everything.
  108. Additionally, gamers  have  the  option  of  allowing  their
  109. characters to  fight in three alternate modes: aggressively,
  110. carefully or normally.

  112.                          Save Games

  114. In response  to gamers'  requests,  players  are  no  longer
  115. assessed a  penalty for saving the game outside of a temple.
  116. Additionally, Star  Trail allows  the player  to enter notes
  117. about each save for future reference.

  119.                            Macros
  120.  
  121. Since characters  tend to  do the  same things in combat and
  122. camp, Star  Trail collects  certain macros  that  allow  the
  123. player to repeat the previous actions without selecting them
  124. all over again.

  126.                         Print Option

  128. Realms of  Arkania -  Star Trail  offers gamers  a character
  129. print option  making character  stats easy to view.  Players
  130. may print  a character's statistics, skills and spell values
  131. to a standard dot matrix printer or an ASCII file.

  133.                       Packrats Welcome

  135. Players like  to keep  everything they find.  Star Trail has
  136. added warehouses  so players  can keep  their stuff  without
  137. slowing down their party.  Of course, this feature has a bit
  138. of a  twist.   Like other  businesses in Arkania, warehouses
  139. are susceptible to thieves.

  141.                     Character Generation
  142.  
  143. Star Trail  follows the  same path as its predecessor, Blade
  144. of Destiny.  Players once again can create characters from a
  145. variety of  classes:  Warrior,  Rogue,  Jester,  Thorwalian,
  146. Hunter, Dwarf, Magician, Witch, Druid, Green Elf, Silvan Elf
  147. and Ice  Elf.  Star Trail also offers a band of pregenerated
  148. characters ready  and waiting  for the  adventure to  begin.
  149. Gamers who  ventured  through  Blade  of  Destiny  may  also
  150. transfer their characters into Star Trail.

  152. The Advanced  and Novice  Mode  options  continue  to  allow
  153. players  the   chance  to   customize  their  characters  in
  154. automatic  or   comprehensive  modes.     Additionally,  the
  155. inclusion of  Positive and  Negative attributes continues to
  156. give Realms  of Arkania's  characters  personality  that  no
  157. other FRPG offers.

  159.                         Skill System
  160.  
  161. Realms of  Arkania --  Star Trail  offers a variety of skill
  162. classes.   Combat, nature,  intuition, craftsmanship,  lore,
  163. body and social skills offer characters distinctive profiles
  164. and personalities  determining a  character's success  in  a
  165. variety of  fields.   As in Blade of Destiny, the player can
  166. choose the  Novice mode  so that  the computer  will  manage
  167. their character's  individual skills or choose Advanced mode
  168. where  the  player  has  full  control  and  access  to  the
  169. character information.

  171.                         Magic System
  172.  
  173. Over 80 different spells, rituals and prayers are offered to
  174. magic users.   A  character is  not confined  to  a  special
  175. spellbook but  may learn  a variety  of spells  which  makes
  176. specialization imperative.   Included  in Star Trail's magic
  177. system are  wand rituals.   These  powerful rituals  allow a
  178. Magician or  Magicienne to  "charge"  a  wand  with  certain
  179. spells.   An appropriately charged wand is ready and waiting
  180. when duty calls.

  182.                       Herbs & Poisons
  183.  
  184. Traveling through  Arkania's wilds,  characters will  likely
  185. come across  a vast  array of  herbs that  may prove  useful
  186. during the  adventure.  Some herbs can be used without prior
  187. preparations,   while   others   require   a   skilled   and
  188. knowledgable  character   before  the   herb's  use  becomes
  189. apparent.   When mixed together, some of Arkania's herbs can
  190. form wonderful healing agents or deadly poisons.

  192. Realms of  Arkania -  Star Trail is available for CD-ROM and
  193. holds a  suggested retail  price of $79.95.  The 3.5" floppy
  194. disk version  of Star Trail carries a suggested retail price
  195. of $69.95.  The Star Trail Speech Pack will be offered later
  196. this year at a suggested retail price of $19.95.

  198. Additionally, Sir-tech will release the Realms of Arkania --
  199. Star Trail  Clue Book in conjunction with the release of the
  200. final product.   The  Star Trail  Clue Book  will retail for
  201. $19.95.
